What we do with your information

Everything you speak about with your advocacy worker is private.  That means that they will not speak to anyone else about what you tell them unless you want them to, except for:

·           AIA  Management Team who must also keep your information private and confidential

·           If you or someone else is at risk of harm.

We would only share your information if we felt you or someone else was at risk of harm.  We can support you to speak with the right person.  We would do this on your behalf if you were unable to do it yourself.

We keep your personal information securely password protected on our database, and paper copies are locked away in a filing cabinet.

We confidentially destroy your personal and sensitive information after 12 months of your last contact with AIA.

We will retain your information where this relates to Adult Protection or Child Protection.

We may use your information to help us understand more about our work – for example, to produce statistics (numbers). No one can identify you from this information.

To make sure we provide good advocacy, we work within the Scottish Independent Advocacy Alliance’s ‘Principles and Standards’.  Please ask your advocacy worker if you would like to find out more information on this.

If you are not happy about the advocacy you receive, please let us know so we can look at how we can make this better for you.   You can find details about how to complain on our website or by phoning the office.  We would also like to hear from you if you have positive feedback.

The General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) give you RIGHTS about your personal data (information):

1.    The right to be informed about how we store and use your information

2.    The right of access to your information

3.    The right to corrections of your information

4.    The right to delete your information

5.    The right to restrict the information we process

6.    The right to obtain and reuse your personal information for your own purposes across different services

7.    The right to object to the processing of your information

You can access your information by asking your advocacy worker or the management team here at Angus Independent Advocacy. We must give this to you within one month of your request.

If you have any other questions about your rights regarding your personal and sensitive information, please contact your advocacy worker or AIA management team.
