What We Do

aimsAngus Independent Advocacy (AIA) supports local vulnerable people within the Angus community to have their voice heard, wishes represented and their rights safeguarded.  AIA matches the person with an advocate that could support them with their current issues.

Below are some of the issues we have supported people with:

  • attending meetings – social work, housing, benefits, citizen advice, welfare rights, etc
  • social isolation
  • safeguarding the rights of people who have no-one independent in their life
  • housing issues
  • Adult Protection
  • Self Directed Support
  • Guardianship/Power of Attorney/Adult with Incapacity
  • accessing and instructing a solicitor
  • planning for discharge from hospital or care
  • medical/health care issues
  • case conferences and reviews
  • support to access services or community resources
  • understanding and filling out forms
  • development of interests
  • Child Protection
  • education
  • support to access financial information
  • employment
  • disputes with others and complaints.

We are guided by the person wanting the support.  We do not give advice, but help the person explore their options and make their own decisions about what they want to do.
